Welcome to Murieston Community Garden, which we are developing in Murieston, Livingston, West Lothian, for use by local residents and visitors. The garden has raised beds to allow people to grow vegetables, and a beautiful relaxing public area with seating, open at all times for everyone to enjoy. Ornate planting of the front garden is in progress, including a sensory garden.
In 2021, West Lothian Council gave us the use of a half-acre plot of rough ground adjacent to Livingston South Railway Station and granted planning permission for the garden. Murieston Community Council installed a path and fences and donated sleepers to use for the first few raised beds. The 13 raised beds that have since been built in the back garden are now in use for 6-bed crop rotation and other vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers.
Funding awards from a number of bodies have allowed us to make rapid progress recently and we are very grateful for all the support. The front garden build has been completed, a beautiful pergola and seat are in place, and planting is in progress.
We also have funds to purchase two greenhouses, but much of the back garden still needs to be built before it can be used fully. We still need funds for bases for the greenhouses, field drains, rainwater harvesting and distribution, and paths in the back garden.
